Crooked knives were used as a one-handed draw knife to shape wood into bowls, spoons, paddles, canoes and more. Forms of the crooked knife were in use by the 17th century. For major work the knife was held with the palm up and the blade projecting to the user's left.

 | Crooked Knife While early knives were often made from old files and wrapped with cording, this fancy version has a dark, carved hardwood handle with pewter bolsters and brass pins.
