From pipes and pipebags to buckskin shirts and skinning knives, the Burdick pieces form a representative sample of Plains Indian material culture and as such stands out as a fine ethnological collection. The relatively short time spans and the limited tribal affiliations enable the Burdick Collection to present a slice of life depicting the Northern Plains Indians of the early 20th century. (from the "Notes on the Collection") Most of this material is not shown in other Plains books.
